Diversity and Inclusion in Mountain Sports with Tselane Mead

As a woman of colour who loves climbing, skiing and mountaineering Tselane has found others are few and far between. There are even fewer role models or instructors. In this talk she explores the issues surrounding diversity and inclusion in the mountains. Tselane has gathered stories of individual experience from women regarding the barriers to getting into these spaces, and how we as a community can work to change the face of alpine sports.

Tselane talks about the ‘adventure gap’ and explores some common stumbling blocks that women of colour come across within the outdoors.

At Women’s Alpine Adventure Club we are passionate about making Alpine experiences more accessible to all women and we wanted to know how we can enable this. We are hugely grateful to Tselane and all the women who were kind enough to give up their time to help us make the first step on this journey. We hope that this talk helps continue the conversation and opens it up in the mountaineering arena.

Those taking part on the evening shared some fantastic resources and so we have tried to bring these together in this blog post. Please do add anything into the comments so it can be a living resource that can be helpful to those that work and play in the mountains.
